This self defence class is ideal for children attending school years 6 and 7. This age is often when children start to have a little more responsibility and independence, walking to and from school on their own.
Children often receive their first mobile phone around this age too, so this session covers personal safety skills including aspects with tech.
Attending secondary school, for most, means travelling further and possibly using buses or trains for the first time, plus longer days combining earlier starts and / or later finishes.

Self Defence Tip
Adults and Children, please think about when walking down the street with a mobile phone in your hand!
In the theory section of SDF Essex classes, we recommend keeping mobile phones away / out of sight.
Mobile phone technology is important and gives us access to many aspects of our life, both business and social.
Consider
Removing the phone from being on show reduces the focus and possible intent of an attack/ mugging.
If we are walking down the street to work, meeting a friend, shopping, going to/from school etc.
Having our phone out texting or updating social media we are not concentrating on the roads, traffic, surroundings or people.
What if
There are several safety issues about walking down the street with a phone in your hand; potential theft / accident, crossing the road etc.
Consider this; whatever phone you have, would you walk down the road with the cash value in your hand?
If you need to text, stop walking, put your back against a wall. Deal with the text, then securely replace mobile in a bag or pocket and carry on.
It’s better to Know and Not Need than Need and Not Know.
Self Defence Training
It’s great fun, particularly the practical part.
The camaraderie that develops in the sessions is infectious. It’s a great mix between learning important life skills, in both theory and practical techniques, and having fun.
Training is always positive and encouraging within the group. Interested to find out more about future self defence classes?
